● High signal (if you run Search or PMax with location assets)

Google Ads Will Start Pulling Promotions Off Your Website on October 12

The short version

Starting Monday, October 12, Google Ads says it will automatically extract "high-quality" offers from your landing pages and attach them as promotion assets on Search and Performance Max campaigns that have linked location assets and no manual promotion. It is opt-out and account-wide: Assets, Account level automated assets, Advanced settings, Automated promotions, Off. Google's own Help list of account-level automated assets now includes Automated promotions, which confirms the opt-out path the trade coverage reported last week. Decide on Monday, because this feature quotes your website's price, not your pricing team's.

What Google announced

Per an email Google sent to some advertisers, quoted by Search Engine Roundtable on October 5 and detailed by PPC Land, Google Ads will begin on October 12, 2026 to "automatically identify and extract high-quality promotions" from advertiser sites and apply them to campaigns. It covers Search and Performance Max campaigns with linked location assets and no promotion assets already attached. Enrollment is automatic.

The feature itself is not new to the Help Center. Google's About account level automated assets page now lists Automated promotions as one of nine account-level automated asset types, alongside dynamic sitelinks, callouts, location assets and others. The page gives one shared set of turn-off steps and none specific to promotions. The October 12 date comes from the email as quoted by the trade press; I did not find it on a Google blog or Help page, so confirm it in your account's notifications.

What it actually means

The press framing is a free extension that lifts click-through. The practitioner framing is different: this is the first Google automation that writes price claims into your ads from a page you do not edit in Google Ads. The offer text lives on your website, owned by whoever runs the banner and the promo page, and your ad now repeats it.

The check Google describes is about visibility, not validity. Per PPC Land, citing PPC News Feed, each sourced promotion serves for under 24 hours and is re-verified, which appears to confirm the offer is still on the page. Google's email does not mention that cycle, does not define "high-quality," and, per trade reporting, plans to read start and end dates from pages in the future without giving a date. So a leftover "20% off" banner, a members-only code, a minimum-spend deal or an app-only offer looks like a live offer to this system.

There is no tuning here. The setting is account-wide, and the only per-campaign lever is indirect: a manual promotion asset on a campaign makes Google skip it. That turns the real decision into who writes the offer text, not on versus off. Responsibility has not moved either. Google's July 2026 Terms of Service update, covered in our terms of service brief, restates that advertisers are responsible for reviewing and removing automatically generated assets, and it is unclear whether that reaches offers extracted from your site.

This follows the pattern of the AI Max auto-upgrade: a default flips on a date, in a subset of accounts. What differs is the failure mode. There it was query matching; here it is a number or a discount claim in your ad copy. If your location assets drive store visits, an online-only discount beside an ad meant to drive branch traffic is the kind of mismatch to look for, which also matters for accounts using local inventory ads.

Google is not checking whether your offer is valid. It is checking whether your offer is visible.

Signal or noise: high if you match the test, low if you do not

High signal for Search or Performance Max accounts with linked location assets and no manual promotion asset, with a clock that runs out Monday. Low for everyone else: no location assets, or manual promotions already on every campaign, means nothing changes for you. Google says it is going to some advertisers, so you may not be in the group at all.

The Monday-morning playbook

  1. Check the setting. Open Assets, the three-dot menu, then Account level automated assets, and see whether Automated promotions is listed and what state it is in. No location assets linked? You are done.
  2. Audit what already exists. Filter Assets by Asset type: Promotion. Per Relevant Audience's walkthrough, Google-sourced promotions show "Google AI" under Added by. Assets with zero impressions do not appear, so a clean list does not prove nothing was attached.
  3. Read your landing pages like a customer. Look for expired banners, minimum-spend conditions, code-only, app-only or members-only offers, and regional pricing. Those are what Google can quote.
  4. Pick one of three. Leave it on and calendar a weekly audit; switch it off in Advanced settings (Google may ask for a reason); or build a manual promotion asset on the campaigns where the wording must be yours. Leaving it on is a legitimate call if your site's offers are clean.
  5. Assign an owner before Black Friday (November 27). Decide in writing who owns banner copy and who owns ad copy.
  6. Regulated or claim-sensitive categories: have compliance read the page text Google can extract before it can serve.

The bottom line

Check the setting, check your banners, choose a lane. If you do nothing, Monday is when doing nothing becomes the default. Confirm the date in your account, and treat the 24-hour re-verification and the date-reading plans as reported, not confirmed by Google.

Frequently asked

Does Google Ads add promotions to my ads without approval?

Yes, for eligible campaigns. From October 12, 2026 Google says it will automatically identify and extract promotions such as coupons and deals from your website and attach them as promotion assets, and advertisers are opted in automatically. There is no approval step. Campaigns that already have a manual promotion asset are skipped.

How do I turn off Automated promotions in Google Ads?

Go to Assets, open the three-dot menu and choose Account level automated assets, open the three-dot menu again, choose Advanced settings, select Automated promotions and switch it off. Google may ask for a reason. The setting applies to the whole account, and the email names no campaign-level control.

Which campaigns does Google Ads Automated Promotions apply to?

Search and Performance Max campaigns that have linked location assets and no manual promotion asset, according to Google's email as reported by Search Engine Roundtable and PPC Land. Google describes the rollout as going to some advertisers, and has not listed countries or languages.
